Der Whole Institution Approach als ganzheitliche Transformationsstrategie für nachhaltige Entwicklung in beruflichen Rehabilitationseinrichtungen
Zusammenfassung:
Der Whole Institution Approach (WIA) stellt für formale und non-formale Bildungseinrichtungen einen systemischen Ansatz dar, der die Entwicklung und Implementierung eines umfassenden Nachhaltigkeitskonzepts innerhalb einer Institution ermöglicht. Gleichzeitig wird Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) sowohl strukturell als auch inhaltlich in den Bildungsprozess integriert.
Berufliche Rehabilitationseinrichtungen, die mit ihren Qualifizierungs- und Integrationsmaßnahmen einen zentralen Bildungsauftrag für Menschen mit gesundheitlichen Einschränkungen oder Behinderungen erfüllen, verfügen über ein erhebliches Potenzial, Wissen und Kompetenzen im Bereich zukunftsorientierter Berufsfelder und nachhaltigen Handelns zu vermitteln. Dadurch leisten sie einen wichtigen Beitrag zum gesamtgesellschaftlichen Transformationsprozess. Ferner stehen berufliche Rehabilitationseinrichtungen als Organisationen vor der Herausforderung, institutionelle Transformationsprozesse sowohl auf organisationaler als auch auf operativer Ebene zu initiieren und zu etablieren. Die Implementierung nachhaltigkeitsorientierter Strukturen und Prozesse ist dabei nicht nur eine strategische Notwendigkeit zur Sicherung der Zukunftsfähigkeit der Einrichtungen, sondern auch eine Voraussetzung für deren Anschlussfähigkeit an gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen.
Entlang des WIA wird daher die Entwicklung und Umsetzung von Nachhaltigkeitsstrategien in beruflichen Rehabilitationseinrichtungen auf kultureller, struktureller und operativer Ebene skizziert und damit einhergehende Herausforderungen diskutiert.

Abstract:
The Whole Institution Approach (WIA) represents a systemic framework for both formal and non-formal educational institutions, enabling the development and implementation of a comprehensive sustainability strategy within the organization. At the same time, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is structurally and conceptually integrated into the educational process.
Vocational rehabilitation institutions, which fulfill a central educational mandate through their qualification and integration programs for individuals with health impairments or disabilities, possess significant potential to impart knowledge and competencies in future-oriented occupational fields and sustainable practices. In doing so, they contribute substantially to the broader societal transformation process. At the same time, vocational rehabilitation institutions themselves face the challenge of initiating and establishing institutional transformation processes at both the organizational and operational levels. The implementation of sustainability-oriented structures and processes is not only a strategic necessity for ensuring the long-term viability of these institutions but also a prerequisite for their alignment with societal developments. Within the framework of the WIA, the development and implementation of sustainability strategies in vocational rehabilitation institutions are outlined on cultural, structural, and operational levels, while associated challenges are critically examined.
