Elemental music education and music therapy from the Chinese perspective
Abstract:
This article examines music education and music therapy from the perspective of Chinese cultural and philosophical traditions, proposing a culture-sensitive model of an elemental music educationtherapy continuum within the pedagogical setting. Using a hermeneutic-comparative approach, the concepts of ‘elementary’ and ‘music’ are first explored in an intercultural context. Subsequently, the objectives and methodological approaches of both disciplines are discussed, along with their intersections and pedagogical-therapeutic overlaps. The proposed model is then situated within the context of school education. It aims to systematically integrate the preventive and health-promoting functions of music. By integrating these dimensions, the article provides both a theoretical impulse and practice-oriented suggestions for a culturally sensitive and context-specific design of music educational and therapeutic approaches.
