Jugendliche, Erwachsene Conduct disorders and rightist attitudes: Prevalence, sex differences, course and risk factors Abstract: Objectives: 1) Prevalence, sex differences, persistence, stability and course of conduct disorders, 2) generation and sex differences of rightist attitudes and 3) common and varying predictors of conduct disorders and rightist attitudes. Methods: Prospective longitudinal study from childhood to early adulthood. Results: Conduct disorders are the most frequent mental disorders in children and adolescents (lifetime prevalence rate of 22.4% until age 25). Conduct disorders are more common in boys, showing unfavourable courses. Precursors of disorders in adulthood can be detected at age 8 years. Adverse family factors and early externalizing problems were most predictive for conduct disorders, whereas low intelligence and school failure were most predictive for later rightist attitudes. Conclusions: The findings show the urgent need for strengthening early prevention of conduct disorders. The main focus should be on socially disadvantaged families (goal: strengthening family and child resources). Key words: conduct disorders, rightist attitudes, course, sex differences, risk factors, longitudinal study, children and adolescents, adults
