War-time conditions in Split, Croatia, caused by the transportation blocade, by the large number of refugees, soldiers and the wounded and by the brutal attacks from the sea, the air and numerous barracks at the beginning of the war favored the appearance of psychic disturbances in children and grown-up persons.
Such a situation is more difficult for a child whose father is on the battlefield and for children refugees. These children have even stronger and more numerous symptoms which last longer. Some differences in responses to the disstressing war situation are noted in children whose both parents are at home and in those children who live in an incomplete family due to the war. Father's return from the battlefield and refugees' return to their homes will cause new difficulties in family communications. New psychic problems with the family as a unit and with each family member can be expected. Therefore, we should not fail to give preventive expert help.
