From the beginning of July 1991 till the end of April 1992 a large number of Croatian soldiers were examined at the Psychiatric Clinic Osijek and 130 of them were hospitalized. All patients were divided into 12 diagnostic groups and analysed according to the length of their stay in the Croatian Army, previous medical treatment, the site of disorder appearance (combat - rear) and their ability for further military service. The number of patients admitted to the Clinic was increasing with the increase of aggression on Osijek. PTSD and acute stress reaction were diagnosed in 40% of patients.
As we expected, the largest number of recoveries and returns to combat was observed in these two groups. Such patients had a priority in diagnosis, medical treatment and rehabilitation.
