MORO, L., FRANCISKOVIC, T., PALLE-ROTAR, D., VIDOVIC, V.

Refugees are a high risk population particularly exposed to stress. In order to prevent pathological reaction to stress, we have started our work with refugees in medium size groups. The work was conducted in three phases. The first one solved the problems of adjustment, and the second was directed toward prevention of serious psychical disorders, which meant working through traumatic experiences. The third phase, still in progress, prepares the refugees for to their native towns and villages, and for living together of Croats and Serbs. The work was conducted under supervision of psychiatrists and psychotherapists and carried out by volunteers specialized in various psychotherapeutic techniques. In the course of work, our programme was being adopted to the current situation in Croatia.
